Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in pop culture. In her efforts to dispel the myths that are associated with females in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet world. Sarkeesian is a graduate in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she's well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. She had a plan to launch a web series on the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not hinder her. It only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in popular cultural and the narratives that surround them.
