
Hanks His next role was that of astronaut and commanding officer Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks with Ron Howard. The film was widely lauded by critics, in addition to the performances of the whole ensemble (which comprised Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) as well as Kathleen Quinlan. The movie also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995). In the same year, he made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) which follows the rise and fall of a popular 1960s group as well as the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanks' portrayal was a worthy inclusion in the best romantic-comedy actors of his time.
