She started her career as a television actress, being featured in the TV films Malibu (1983) as well as California Girls (1985). She also played Gwendoline, a comedienne in the Land of the Yik-Yak (both 1984) as well as Bachelor Party (1985). Kitaen was well-known for her appearances in music videos featuring heavy metal like Ratt's "Back for More", Whitesnake "Still of the Night" as well as "Is This Love" (all 1987). Kitaen also appeared in reality television shows, including Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) and The Surreal Life (2006) in which Kitaen was portrayed as struggling with substance abuse. She was born Julie Kitaen in San Diego, California in 1961, the oldest of three children born to Linda Kitaen (nee Taylor) an housewife and one-time beauty pageant contestant, and Terry Kitaen, an employee of a company that makes neon signs. Kitaen was the daughter of a Russian-Jewish dad and an Scottish mother. [3The younger Kitaen was raised in the Jewish faith. When she was a young girl she struggled with dyslexia, which eventually led her to drop out of Mission Bay High School. 7.
